I haven't even left the house yet, and my flight is already delayed. Amazing.

WE ARE HOMEOWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
05:03 PM EDT

11:19 AM EDT
So it's 9:45 and I'm sitting here trying not to freak out about the closing and all of the other stuff going on. My admin, who rocks, has managed to get me direct flights both ways for my trip, and I don't have to leave until 5:50 tomorrow night. The only downer is that since a bunch of people from my company are going, I may not get to rent a car. I hate being beholden to other people to get back to the hotel from the training center and not having the freedom to go out to dinner and all of that, so I may just rent a car myself.
Otherwise, all of our paperwork is in order, and we have our checkbooks ready.
Whew.

Today was certainly interesting, if nothing else. I spent seven hours of it in an advertising review meeting, which went swimmingly, if a little long and boring. While I was on a break, one of the admins asked me if I'd like to take her two tickets to the Devils-Predators game tonight, since she's going out of town and really couldn't use them. I agreed, and was psyched to see that they were tenth-row seats, and included a parking pass.
As I was getting ready to leave around 5:45, my boss came into my office and closed the door. He had good news and bad news. The good news is that he decided to assign our new co-marketed medical device to me, which means that I'm responsible for all legal activity that is related to the product. This is a great deal of responsibility, but it's also a great feather in my cap. The bad news is that the company that designed the product is holding a training session about it starting this Sunday, and I need to go.
To San Francisco. For a week.
The day after we close on the house.
The timing really isn't good, because a) we need to do a lot of work on the house b) Tuesday is my birthday and not least of all c) I'm terrified to fly right now.
Tomorrow will be spent getting my travel arrangements squared away, and doing laundry and packing.
Oh, and the small matter of closing on the house, which happens at 1.
Aieeeeeeee!

Which Brady Bunch kid are you most like?
03:07 PM EDT
Whatever I did to mess with my karma, I'd really like to make amends now, please. Not only did the whole heat and dental thing happen this morning, but now it appears that our closing on Friday may be in jeopardy. The lawyer's office just called to let me know that our mortgage check hasn't arrived yet, and when she called the company to find out what the holdup is, they informed her that they have still not been provided with our updated asset reports (bank statements and such), which Dave dropped off to our mortgage person, IN PERSON, on December 21.
If we can't close on Friday because of this, I'm going to go berserk.
03:02 PM EDT
Today, my morning was supposed to start with a routine trip to the dentist. I needed a cleaning, and wanted to find out about getting my top two front teeth rebonded, since they had been done a really long time ago and are starting to drive me crazy with the way they look.
It didn't quite turn out that way.

I'd like to wish all of you a very happy, loving, healthy and peaceful new year.
We enjoyed a quiet celebration with some friends, lots of food, an adorable baby, and a kickass game of Trivial Pursuit. It's been a wonderful year in some ways (new job, new house) and a terrible one in others (Dead Dotcom going under, and everything related to 9/11); I'm looking forward to a better 2002.
Thanks for hanging in there with me.

When we moved here in April of 2000, we started getting a ton of phone calls for some guy named Richard Hughes, who apparently had our phone number before we got it, and who seemed to get calls from every telemarketer and dating service on the eastern seaboard. Now, it seems that our number is very close to that of a woman named Candy. Candy's friends and relatives also seem to have a keen inability to correctly dial her number. Our phone rang at 3:30 this morning, and it was some guy at a party or a club or something, looking for Candy. He also didn't seem to want to believe that he had a wrong number.
I get so freaked out when the phone rings at that hour, because I automatically assume that something's wrong.
It took me a while to get back to sleep.
