The game? Sucked. Sucked a whole lot, although we had a good time talking with our row-mates, as usual. We see each other at every game, so we've got a little friends thing going with all of them.

We came home and almost immediately started cleaning. Wow, this place looks great. I did the kitchen and bath and shampooed the carpet in the front closet, and Dave took care of the cat box, the sunroom, and the living room. We got some take-out for dinner, and then he headed to the mall while I wrapped gifts and watched Trading Spaces. He's still at the mall, and now I'm catching up on The Usual Suspects and watching a show about Las Vegas. I've got candles burning all over, and am incredibly content.

10:00 PM EDT

Well, after sending a certified letter to the landlady to re-inform her of our intent to depart this apartment, she finally wrote us a note today, congratulating us on our new house and letting us know that she and Former Landlord would like to walk through the place to see what repairs need to be made. TOMORROW. Two days before Christmas. Yay. So after we get back from the Devils game this afternoon, we are undertaking Operation Stack and Store Really Fast. The place isn't that bad, really - it's more cluttered than anything, but I need to swiff the bathroom floor and we need to tidy up most of the rooms. JUST what I was looking forward to doing this evening. NOT.

Hopefully it won't take too long, and Dave can get out to *ahem* finish his shopping and I can listen to Christmas music and wrap presents, since we're heading up to my parents' house tomorrow night.

Today was kind of fun. I got new glasses, which are sort of Lisa-Loeb-Marian-the-Librarian type frames, and I really like them. Now, understand that I never, ever wear my glasses. I put my contacts in practically the second I wake up, and I take them out right before I go to sleep. Having cool glasses means that I might actually even wear them to work, and put off that LASIK for at least a few months.

Then we went to dinner and to see Lord of the Rings. Not being a big sci-fi/fantasy fan like someone I know, I wasn't expecting to love it, but I did. Wow. The visuals were amazing, and even though it ran almost three hours, I hardly found myself thinking about the time. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

Take the 100 Acre Personality Quiz!

Guím oraibh Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi Mhaise.

That would be "I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" in Irish. You know, I'd love to learn to speak it, as soon as I'm done with basic Japanese, which I need more, what with the job thing and all, but all those consonants together sort of scare me.

Idiot judge makes kid caught with pot listen to Afroman. I mean, it's punishment to have to listen to that song, but I don't think it's quite the kind of punishment that this judge was thinking about.

Xerox today won a patent infringement lawsuit against Palm and 3Com for the use of the "Graffiti" handwriting recognition system. If Xerox ultimately prevails, they'll first have to decide if they'll allow Palm to continue using the technology; if they do, Xerox is going to make a *mint* in licensing fees.

So today I did the very Heatherlike thing of hitting two of the busiest malls in northern New Jersey on the same day, five days before Christmas. We timed things well, though. We hit GSP (the Plaza, not the Parkway, although we did take the latter to get to the former) around 3, before the onslaught of teenagers and people who aren't on vacation. We also had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen, which we haven't done since we moved to NJ. Then tonight, I ventured back to Willowbrook at around ten p.m. and although it was slightly more crowded than usual, not bad at all. I have two more non-mall presents to buy which will be taken care of tomorrow, and then, blessedly, I will be done with the evil shopping.

...and thanks (or no thanks, as the case may be) to my mother, the Passive-Aggressive Holiday Follies have begun.

08:17 PM EDT

My Josh Groban CD just arrived, as any early Christmas present to myself. I cannot believe that this kid is only twenty, and has a voice like this.
01:18 PM EDT

Well, we had a fabulous time at the Devils-Rangers game last night. Those luxury boxes are really sweet, and the free food and drink was awesome. Lots of Devils fans in the building, too, which was nice, and the game ended up tied. We invited a friend from Dead Dotcom, so it was great to see him and catch up, as well. All in all, a lovely evening.

Now, we have to finish our shopping, and get the utilities set for the new house.

I'd like to announce that I am officially on vacation.
05:34 PM EDT

How do I love hockey? Let me count the ways. Add one more to that. Dave just called to tell me that one of his vendors gave him luxury box seats to the Devils-Rangers game tonight at Madison Square Garden.

You may remember a few weeks back when I mentioned the Washington Post story about "The Armpit of America." The saga continues.

I was hoping the article would explain why the guy cut off his girlfriend's ears, but no dice.

Today's Held in Contempt poll question:

How many active email accounts do you have? Do you check all of them regularly, or are some just for spam?

I have six. I check three daily, and the other three when I can remember.

I'm so angry about this ruling that I could just scream. How long is this going to go on?
09:13 PM EDT

ESPN reports that NBC will air 30 of the 32 Olympic men's hockey games live. I'm too terribly excited about this.
08:00 PM EDT

Well, this sucks.
07:40 PM EDT

Note to self: No matter how great the high-heeled black square-toe boots look with your outfit, your feet will be throbbing in pain well before noon.
05:35 PM EDT

What, are all of you on vacation, or doing last-minute Christmas shopping or something?
04:26 PM EDT

Dear Person at my Company Who Must Not Be Named,

Could you please explain to me why the extensively negotiated and redlined and finally agreed upon document that I sent you ON AUGUST 28 never made it to the vendor for signature? Also, for extra credit, please attach a statement explaining why you now want to start from scratch with our template instead of theirs.

No Love,
Your Lawyer.

This couple believed that God gave them an early Christmas present, apparently, so they went out and spent it. Oops.

55% Eighties Pop Act

You are The Smiths: You were a peripheral player in the eighties, people thought it was cool to be your friend, but they never really wanted to spend time with you. Go watch Twin Peaks reruns.

I believe that I just heard Susie Wynne, my most unfavorite commentator, describe someone's skating as "creamy."
04:41 PM EDT

Even though Squishy is gone, Pamie still rocks.
03:15 PM EDT

Well, the party was...nice. Not exciting, not fabulous, just...nice.

And that's all I have to say about that.

It's now Sunday afternoon, and I've accomplished both a letter to the landlady (since she hasn't bothered to respond to the termination notice we left her two weeks ago) and to do a little bit more online shopping. Still have a few people left, but nothing major. I'm on vacation after Wednesday until the day after Christmas, and I just can't wait.

I still haven't found my glasses. Benny is asleep on my left arm which is making typing really difficult. He's gotten so heavy.

Congratulations to Plum, Kerry, and Athena, the Three Expecting Musketeers! You guys had to be planning that, right?

I was contemplating going to the mall, but I think the insanity has passed. I do need to run to the grocery store, though.
