Held In Contempt

OK, I know that I said that this dog was rescued a while ago, but it turns out that the capture really didn't happen until today. Regardless, the Heather and Dave household commences great rejoicing at this news.

Have I mentioned lately that Chuck rocks? He should definitely write more. Now.

Honestly, I never even thought about consideration of nicotine as something that would be part of a random drug test.

I was going to post something about the Devils game that we attended today, but I'm frankly too irritated by their crappy play to go into too much detail. We managed yet again to see their final home game of the season, and I am stunned and disappointed that they didn't even make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

Instead, enjoy this lovely gem from law.com about the mpst egregious offenses committed by judges in the past year.

A group of writers chime in on the cheesiness that was The Bachelor. I still think Alex is gay. Of course, this didn't keep me from watching. Ahem.

Lest this become an all-Osbournes, all the time blog, I'll try to make this the last entry on the subject for a while: my boss was in Maui this week for a corporate event, and the Osbournes were staying at his hotel. He met and hung out with Ozzy and the family, and he says that Ozzy, although barely able to walk or speak coherently in many instances, is extremely sweet. I'm waiting to see the photos.

I...well...um...I think I need to let this one speak for itself.

I'm a little boggled by this story, frankly. If you're a pharmacist, your job is to...wait for it...dispense prescription medication to customers who deliver a valid prescription and pay for the merchandise, is it not? If you have a religious objection to performing a duty that is part of your job description, perhaps it's time to think of a change to another career field.

I'm checking into the statement in the article that says that "the state of Florida also does not require a pharmacist to fill a prescription." What does that mean?

From Ipse Dixit: Comedian calls attendees at a convention for telemarketers before dawn to give them a sales pitch. I love this guy.

My commute this morning was amusing for two reasons. First, I got to hear a remix of Ozzy Osbourne's "Dreamer" interspersed with comments from the TV show, including several shouts of "SHAAAAARON!", Sharon's "Martha Stewart can lick my scrotum," and the diatribe about the bubbles. I don't know what it is about that show that cracks me up so much, but I just cannot help myself, especially when Ozzy starts stuttering unintelligibly.

Then, there was a backup on 280. Why, Heather, I hear you saying, why would it be funny that the main road that you take to work was backed up? Normally, I would be in total agreement. However, the cause of this backup was the sudden breakdown of a Ferrari Testarossa. It was hilarious to see the well-gelled, heavily jeweled male driver having a conniption (or, as Ozzy would put it, a "wobbler") by the side of the highway as his beloved penis substitute was being loaded onto a flatbed tow truck.

It's the little things.

The ubiquitous Kelly Osbourne is writing an advice column for YM (remember when it was Young Miss?). She seems like a pretty smart kid, judging from the answers she's dishing out here.

The Washington Post has a fascinating article on the evolution of George Washington University since Stephen Trachtenberg has been in charge there. It's of particular interest to me, because I was in law school there when the ABA's investigation mentioned in the article took place. Having visited the Foggy Bottom area recently for the first time in a few years, I was absolutely flabbergasted by the amount of development around the university. It's impressive, but what's the cost?

The best-known pharmaceutical industry group announced today that it has .unanimously adopted a new marketing code to govern the pharmaceutical industry’s relationships with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The voluntary code will take effect on July 1.

There has been a lot of recent press regarding the lavish gifts that some pharmaceutical companies provide to physicians under the guise of "educational seminars" or "consulting arrangements" -- ways in which healthcare providers might be induced to prescribe certain products. This voluntary code reiterates the American Medical Association guideline that any gifts given to physicians should be of minimal value (under $100) and must be related in some way to patient care or the physician's practice (in other words, no golf bags, VCRs or luggage, to name a few examples) in order to be acceptable.

Although my company is already very strict about its promotional and educational programs, it will be very, very interesting to see if these guidelines turn the tide of gift overload that currently exists in the industry.

So we got back from dinner last night to find that the cable modem had gone down, thus preventing me from providing details on Le Proposal. Unfortunately, I don't really have time to post much of a lengthy entry here from the office (the boss is in Hawaii this week), so hopefully the modem issue will be resolved by the time I get home from the dentist tonight. Yes, hooray, the dentist. At least there will be no drilling involved tonight.

Oh, and the dog from yesterday's item has been rescued. *cheers*

For those of you who have been kind enough to ask, I will post more about the whole proposal thing later on. We've got guests coming over tonight, though, and we're in a mad rush to make the house semi-presentable. There's also a certain very important hockey game starting momentarily. Back later!

For any of you who were following the story of the dog left on a sinking Indonesian tanker a few weeks back, it appears that the ship didn't sink after all, and that the dog is still alive. Rescuers are en route.
