In further news about my desk chair, I managed to swap my lame-o chair for one of the cool, adjustable black ones with the reclining back. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than the previous printed monstrosity.

Hey, if anyone has dropped in here via Daypop, could you let me know what the heck was linked over there? I've got a boatload of hits from there, but I am completely mystified as to why.

...and the Flyers have placed convicted rapist Billy Tibbetts, whom they only acquired on March 17, on waivers already. Nice knowing ya, punk.

Document retention, of all things, has become a hot legal topic of late in light of the Enron/Arthur Andersen debacle. Having recently been tasked with writing a new document retention policy for my company, I am constantly amazed at how often people will neglect to think about whether they should keep documents; in our zeal to clean off our desks and empty our file cabinets, good judgment seems to fly out the window.

With a lot of help from Dave, I downloaded and installed Moveable Type tonight. Now, I need to come up with a template, figure out where to put my archives, and import all of my old Blogger and GreyMatter entries. I can't wait to start using it. I'm so tired of this template.

My need for a new desk chair has reached critical mass. Pending payment of my bonus this Friday, I am now on a search for the perfect chair (within reason, although I'd really love to have an Aeron -- I got spoiled when I had one while I was consulting for another dead dotcom right after we moved to NJ). Suggestions?

Dave and I just returned from our second-to-last Devils game of the season -- we have one more on Friday, against Montreal, one of the teams currently fighting for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Today, they managed to beat the number one team in that conference, the Boston Bruins, in a sloppy overtime game. The Devils alternately thrill and frustrate me, mostly because they can be so maddeningly inconsistent. Last year, they managed to lose the Stanley Cup in the seventh game of the series to the Avalanche, and started this season looking like it was going to be a rebuilding year in the old Meadowlands. Then, the Devils fired coach Larry Robinson at the end of January, replacing him with Kevin Constantine, recently of the Penguins, and the team has gone a respectable, although not wonderful, 17-9-2 since he's been around. With today's win, the Devils clinched a playoff spot, albeit a lower one than they're used to, and will most likely face the Flyers or the Hurricanes in the first round.
Today's game was a wonder of terrible officiating (yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Helmet Hair), including a non-call for a high stick brought crashing down on Patrik Elias' head during the third period. Nonetheless, Scott Niedermayer managed to score in the OT, thus giving the Devils two points and a certain spot in the playoffs. We didn't buy playoff tickets this year, what with the new house and all, but I'm hoping that we can get to at least a few games, assuming that the Devils make it out of the first round.
I love hockey.
Dave, on the other hand, is in the throes of early-season love with the Mets. After their whomping of the most-hated Braves (love that photo of Smoltz that's currently up there -- his ERA after last night is 43.2) last night with nine runs in the ninth inning, he's got a lot to love. I'm still bitter over the Benny Agbayani trade, so I think it's going to take me a little bit longer to welcome the team back into my good graces. It's nice to see them off to such a good start, though, since all of the pundits were predicting unmitigated disaster.
We've got another potential tenant in the works, too. She's got a dog, which is something that we had originally decided not to allow, but apparently it's one of these five-pound "fits in a purse" kind of things, so we'll have to see. In the meantime, we're making slow but sure progress on the clutter on our side of the house. I think it's really going to be great once we've finished it.

Maybe I'm just naive, but how did no one notice that these people were dead for FOUR YEARS? This whole story just gives me the creeps.
